MaP ALIVE Initiative CLiMa Symposium on 12 September 2023
25 ALIVE CLiMa stream members met last Tuesday to bring each other up to date on work status and to receive input on open problems.
The ETH ALIVE Initiative has started last year, and projects are already in full swing. Time for a progress meeting: 25 members of the CLiMa stream (CLiMa: Living Systems for Carbon Capturing in Self-Aware Infrastructure) met at the Alumni Pavillon on ETH Zentrum campus for a day of concentrated working.
ALIVE CLiMa fellows presented the status of their work to receive questions and valuable feedback from other stream members. Besides work status updates, participants were informed on collaborations, lab planning, and funding opportunities.
The symposium was also an excellent opportunity to network - not just during work discussions, but also while having a sandwich or coffee over lunch. It seems ALIVE members are a very sociable bunch with a healthy (lively?) appetite. Or was the food provided by SV Services especially delicious? In any case, the ALIVE CLiMa group has a very good sense of humour, (over)using 'ALIVE' to crack a joke throughout the whole day.
The ALIVE | Advanced Engineering with Living Materials Initiative of ETH Zurich aims at elucidating and applying the design principles of living systems as a basis for sustainable, intelligent and resilient materials and technologies of the future. Our approach encompasses the study of natural systems and the development of bio-hybrid or bio-mimetic synthetic systems bridging across scales, from the nano to the macro and structural scale. The initiative brings together over 20 professorships from material science, engineering, biosystems science and possible impact areas such as architecture and health. Living Systems for Carbon Capturing in Self-Aware Infrastructure (CLiMa) is one of three ALIVE workstreams.
