MaP Award

MaP Award

The MaP Doctoral School (MaP until 2021) awards a prize for the most promising doctoral thesis of ETH Zurich in the field of Materials and Processes of the preceding year. Each MaP member group is invited to nominate one candidate.

A jury of experts from academia and industry evaluates the entries and selects the nominees for the shortlist based on the following criteria:

  • scientific quality and novelty of the work in the area of materials and processes
  • demonstration of the ability to follow a translational approach to address a scientific grand challenge (need-/end-use-driven research)
  • transdisciplinary thinking (research strategy crossing disciplinary boundaries, impact of research on other scientific disciplines)
  • report and dissemination

Applicants nominated for the shortlist are invited to present their findings on the occasion of the MaP Graduate Symposium. The oral presentation contributes with 20% to the decision-making process.

All nominees on the shortlist receive an award. The winner of the MaP Award additionally obtains CHF 3000 (CHF 2500 until 2021) prize money.
